1998 Pollution Prevention Award
CHICAGO - MSC Pre Finish Metals Inc (MSC) was named the winner in the newly created National Coil Coaters Association (NCCA) Pollution Prevention Awards. MSC received this distinction for their innovative wastewater treatment technique that resulted in a substantial reduction of sludge. The announcement took place during the NCCAs Fall Meeting, held in October at the Westin Hotel OHare in Rosemont, IL.
The system which was implemented by MSC, involved a change in the chemistry of their wastewater treatment process from standard hydroxide precipitation to a polymer-based modified sulfide precipitation method. Essentially, they combined two different approaches to wastewater treatment and developed a unique method that has saved the company money and reduced the quantity of sludge generated.
NCCAs Government Relations Committee created the Pollution Prevention Award to recognize success in minimizing the generation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste and to promote awareness for environmentally responsible initiatives among active, associate and affiliate members.
The awards program encourages information sharing and further raises the level of commitment to implementing environmentally sound and superior programs - the mission of NCCA
