American Metals Wins 2016 NCCA Safety Award

The National Coil Coating Association (NCCA) has presented its 2016 Safety Award to the American Metals’ facility in Westlake, Ohio. The award was announced at NCCA’s Fall Technical Meeting in Indianapolis on Sept. 28.

The NCCA Safety Committee selected American Metals from 40 plants that were considered for the award. The entries were judged on the basis of their OSHA injury and illness incidence rates, total number of lost-workday cases and their lost-workday incidence rates. The Safety Committee interviewed the top five plants with the best record for 2015 and then visited the top three plants to evaluate their safety programs.

American Metals' record speaks for itself, with no lost time from 2011 to 2016 and an average of 1.4 recordable incidents in that same time period. The safety culture within American Metals starts with the upper management making safety the most important core value within their organization. American Metals' mission statement is, "Our employees are our most important asset; their safety is our greatest responsibility."

The Safety Committee recognized that American Metals’ commitment to safety and the many elements to their safety program, such as employee involvement, upper management support, employee incentive programs and capital investments make their program so successful.

“American Metals is one of the few elite plants that continues to impress the NCCA Safety Committee,” said Ed Musingo, the chair of NCCA’s Safety Committee. “This is the fourth time they have won the award since 2008.”
